Crown Point Boot Camps: Annual Turkey Busting Workouts

Just bring a can of food and you can workout at Crown Point’s leading fitness boot camp from November 21-23 for free. Angela Ramos, owner of Inspiration Fitness, calls them “Turkey-Busting Workouts” because they burn off those monstrous calories we all gobble up at Thanksgiving.

“We are making this an annual tradition here,” says Ramos, “because Thanksgiving is such a wonderful family and friends holiday, and a time to show our appreciation for all we have, especially our health.”

Inspiration Fitness is open to everyone and their family and friends on November 21nd (9am, 5pm or 6pm), November 22rd (5pm)) November 24th (9am, 5pm or 6pm). The cost of admission is just two cans of food (preferably vegetables), otherwise it’s completely free to everyone who wants a great workout with fun people.

“All that we ask is that folks register in advance at this page so we can be sure we have enough equipment on hand to accommodate everyone,” says Ramos.

After you register, we’ll email you all the information you need to attend boot camp!

Boot camp is perfect for all folks regardless of age or fitness level – we make everyone feel welcome and customize the workouts so everybody gets what they need.”

“We anticipate a great turnout because folks enjoy working out with family, friends and friendly people. And because we’re supporting a great cause, a Local Food Bank. It’s a great way way for us to give thanks for our health, our families, friends and good fortune, and help others who are less fortunate at the same time,” explains Ramos.

Crown Point Boot Camp: Enjoy Halloween, but Not Too Much

CROWN POINT | Local Crown Point fat loss expert, Angela Ramos, has information that every dieter needs to know: Halloween is when the holiday weight gain really starts.

While the month of December is typically blamed for holiday weight gain, Ramos warns those wanting to lose weight that thanks to Halloween the pounds actually start to get packed on in late October.

"The amount of eats and treats that people consume is alarming," Ramos was quoted as saying. "One of the main problems is the smaller ‘snack sizes' that the candy manufacturers have made available. Eating several ‘mini' chocolate bars is something people see as ‘ok' because of their smaller size. In other words, it becomes a lot easier to convince yourself to indulge in these gut-swelling goodies and then you end up eating even more than before!"

Ramos recommends the following three figure-saving tips he has used with great success with her own clients for keeping the pounds off while still allowing for the occasional Halloween treat during pumpkin season:

1) Workout with Pumpkins: Attend Ramos' "Freaky Fat Loss Workout" to engage in some amazingly fun and effective seasonal fat loss workouts involving only your body weight and you guessed it... a pumpkin! This high-intensity, metabolism-boosting workout will be Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 6-8pm at Inspiration Fitness. All you need is: a costume, 2 non-perishable food items (to be donated to a local food pantry), and a PUMPKIN (females-10lb, males-20lb, children-5lb). For more information call 219-779-0500.

2) Make Healthier Halloween Recipes: Ramos recommends finding some great tasting treat recipes on line that won't kill your diet for some much needed damage control this Halloween season. It is imperative to be able to think outside the box by substituting healthier ingredients where possible without overly sacrificing the taste you crave for a more figure-friendly Halloween.

3) Use Common Sense:

- Only buy enough candy so that you expect to run out before the evening is over. It's crucial to weight loss success to not have "trigger" foods lying around - the temptation is often too great.

- Allow yourself just one piece of candy in the morning and then one at night. Skip any desserts

that you would normally eat after dinner. Also, be sure to increase your exercise activity by thirty minutes on every day that you eat your two pieces of candy. This will counteract the increase in calories that you are consuming.

- Furthermore, if people indulge a bit too much it's important to forgive themselves and move on. Dwelling on the past will not help their success.

Ramos believes that we must break out of the frustrating emotional eating patterns that sabotage our fat loss efforts during the holidays.

She states: "Our brains are wired to crave the sugar-laded treats that typify the Halloween season. So, our approach has been to take the exact opposite approach with our clients. Instead of using Halloween as a reason to justify eating a bunch of junk food we spin the seasonal event to spice up our boot camp workout by using pumpkin exercises. Halloween thus becomes a fat loss tool for us and our clients- this approach is key to adopting a healthy lifestyle for long-term success."

Ramos' local Inspiration Fitness facility (www.CrownPointPersonalTrainers.com) will be holding their annual "Freaky Fat Loss Workout" on Thursday, November 3 from 6-8 pm at 1940 E. North St, Suite C in Crown Point. The event features an interval training fat loss workout using pumpkins that Ramos claims will "scare the fat off of your body." Following the workout is a healthy Halloween buffet consisting of recipes brought in by their clients. The event is open to the general public and will also serve as a fund-raiser for a local food pantry.

“Six weeks ago I was feeling quite lazy and believed that I couldn’t work out at all due to my size. I used my weight, my Multiple Sclerosis and my Fibromyalgia as an excuse to not workout. I thought working out would just cause more pain. Being well over 150 lbs overweight, I also did not have the energy nor the motivation to want to workout. That’s when my friend, Amber Hough, sent me the email from Angela about the six week best body challenge at Inspiration Fitness. I immediately thought that this might be the motivation I needed to jump start my healthy journey that I desperately needed to take. However, as the start date came closer, I was getting really scared that I would not succeed and that it would be way to hard for me to keep up. On the Friday night, I was so close to telling Amber that I would not do the challenge with her. I was so afraid of being the biggest person there and feeling completely out of place and definitely the most out of shape. Amber reassured me that I would not feel that way and that I would be able to move at my own pace. Well, she was right.

Coach Angela and her staff helped make that first class experience simply inspiring. It was completely opposite of what I was dreading. For every exercise they had us do, she would offer a less intense option. And while they were considered less intense for others, they were exactly what I needed. As a result I did not feel like I was not working out because my weight or my pain, but rather I was just doing it differently. However, I did leave that class in more pain that when I came, but it was the good pain. The pain that says hey…you just used muscles you haven’t used in ages. It was such an amazing accomplishment. It was for this reason that I was motivated every week to come back to class. The best body challenge helped me see that I was able to do more that I ever thought I was capable of doing. Thank you!

While the challenge was definitely not easy, I feel absolutely great. I know now that I am capable of handling a pretty intense workout that actually produces results. I have more energy and definitely more motivation to want to work out everyday. I have especially noticed the way my clothes are starting to fit better, which I believe is because I have lost inches in my waist, thighs and hips. It’s a great result and one that keeps you wanting to do more. I also have noticed that my muscles are stronger. I am able to do more physically now than I was when I started.

I now able to do multiple burpees without feeling like I am going to pass out. My muscles do not feel extremely sore after working out. I am able to lift more weight than when I began. I can stretch a bit farther and make each set last a little bit longer. I can hold my plank formation without dropping to my knees as often as I was when I first began. But more importantly, I do not feel as lazy as I did before. This best body challenge has inspired me to take control of my health and exercise and has given me a new release on my life. And for that I am grateful!” Kerry

“When I began the BBC I was 5 weeks post-partum with my 5th baby. I began knowing that I would not be back to my pre-pregancy size in 6 weeks but knew I would be headed in the right direction. I was tired, low energy and felt weak.
Half way through the BBC I had a lot more energy and I couldn’t believe how much strength I had gained in that short amount of time. I learned that if I tried to find the time to work out that I wouldn’t so I had to make the time. I was so happy not to feel pregnant and look so pregnant anymore.
This is the beginning of a life style for me not just a quick fix. Along the way I am not only learning how to eat clean and workout correctly but also how to get right back on track when I fall off. I am learning how to get out of my own way and accept the challenges of life. This has been so empowering for me as a wife, a mom, and a woman. I am ready to accept the next challenge.” Jennifer

“I started the “Your Best Body” 6 week program and have really enjoyed myself. I love challenges so participating in this program has helped me to exercise and watch what I eat. I have noticed my clothes not fitting so tight and I have extra energy especially after the Saturday morning workouts. My weight goes up and down but as I said, I still feel more comfortable. I’ve met great ladies and enjoyed working together with them when we’d divide into teams. The coaches have been very helpful and go around the room and make sure we do the exercises correctly. I especially appreciate Angela Ramos explaining how and why we need to do a certain exercise a certain way. If you had troubles, the coaches would help you as I saw them giving one lady extra one-on-one help. They would also tell us, explain, and demonstrate the different levels of a certain exercise. Thank You all for this great experience.” Lola Moberly

Crown Point Boot Camp: How to Make Your Healthiest and Best Body Ever

Hope to see you there!

Crown Point Boot Camp: Best Body Challenge

Inspiration Fitness is on a mission to change the shape of Crown Point. The Best Body Challenge could help hundreds of local residents transform their bodies in 6 weeks, free of charge.

There’s no cost to participate in the challenge all we ask is that each person make a small, one-time $10 donation to St. Jude House. That’s it.

The Best Body Challenge can be likened to the fitness and weight loss contest phenomenon started by the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser. The show really focused the nation’s attention on the benefits of participating in a contest, guided by certified personal trainers, in terms of the motivation and accountability necessary for success. It’s difficult to lose weight on your own. Anyone who’s tried and struggled knows that – and unfortunately, that’s the majority

At www.CrownPointBestBodyChallenge.com, you can find the details of the challenge and provides a complete guide that can be downloaded instantly, containing instructions, questions and answers, rules and regulations, prizes awarded to winners and even a complete 6-week exercise and nutrition program.

For those that need a little more instruction and encouragement, there is a separate group called “Kick It” that will meet Saturday mornings at 8am at Inspiration Fitness. There is a small fee of $47 to participate in this group. Space will be limited.

Many local businesses have agreed to sponsor the challenge by helping spread the word and provide many of the prizes awarded to the Your Best Body Grand Champion and two runners up. “It’s definitely a town effort,” says Ramos “we couldn’t do this without a lot of help. We’re all very grateful for the way this challenge is being received and look forward to helping a lot of folks lose the weight and get into great shape.”
